Jonathan Horton KC
Areas of Practice
Jonathan has a generalist appellate, public law and advice practice. Recent matters of note include his role as Senior Counsel Assisting in a range of public inquiries (Commonwealth, NSW, Victoria and Queensland), as advocate in appeals relating to Parliamentary Privilege, restitution, construction of rights of installation and maintenance under the Telecommunications Act (Cth), as well as first instance mining objections involving questions of the application of the Human Rights Act (Qld).
Jonathan holds a PhD (Laws) from Edinburgh University, a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.
His particular areas of interest and experience lie in the full scope of administrative law, in mining and environmental law, in public investigations and inquiries and in native title and liquor and gaming law.
Jonathan accepts briefs nationally in administrative and constitutional law matters, in appellate matters and to give advice on these and related issues. He also accepts briefs in particular criminal law matters and regularly advises governments as to regulatory arrangements.
